Elderly Man Injured After Fire Breaks Out Due to Suspected Short Circuit in Siolim

A hazardous domestic fire broke out at a residential property in Baman Waddo, Siolim on Tuesday, resulting in injuries to a senior citizen. The incident occurred near the Siolim-Marna village panchayat, drawing an immediate response from neighbors who noticed smoke billowing out from the structure.

The victim has been identified as Fredrick D’Souza, a 73-year-old disabled man who was unfortunately alone at home when the fire started. Preliminary assessments indicate that the blaze erupted due to a suspected electrical short circuit within a wall switchboard unit, which quickly ignited surrounding materials.

Trapped inside the house due to his limited mobility, Mr. D’Souza sustained injuries as the smoke and flames spread. Realizing the gravity of the situation, locals acted swiftly to rescue him from the burning structure and alerted emergency fire and medical services.

The injured elderly man was immediately shifted to a medical facility for urgent treatment and observation. Fire fighters arrived at the scene shortly after to battle the flames, eventually bringing the electrical fire under complete control before it could completely destroy the residential property.
