A major fire broke out at a saw mill in Davorlim on Friday, reducing a large portion of the premises to ashes and causing significant damage to machinery, timber stock, and other materials. Thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from the site, prompting an immediate response from the fire and emergency services.
Five fire tenders from nearby fire stations were pressed into service to contain the blaze. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby structures. Their timely intervention helped bring the situation under control despite the intensity of the blaze.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. Police and fire officials cordoned off the area to facilitate firefighting operations and ensure public safety. The extent of the financial losses is yet to be officially assessed.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Preliminary inquiries are examining whether an electrical short circuit or other factors may have triggered the blaze. A detailed assessment of the damage and the exact cause will be carried out once the investigation is completed.
