A devastating domestic fire ripped through a residential apartment in the coastal belt of Pilern–Verem, leaving a senior citizen fighting for her life. The quiet morning was shattered by thick plumes of smoke emerging from the residential complex, prompting neighbors to raise an immediate alarm. The incident has once again brought domestic electrical safety to the forefront of local concern.
The accidental blaze broke out at a flat located near the prominent Shri Krishna Temple around 7:30 AM on Saturday. A 74-year-old female resident who was inside the apartment at the time was caught in the fast-spreading flames. She sustained severe burn injuries across her body before emergency rescue protocols could be fully executed by the arriving teams.
Responding to the panic, specialized personnel from the Goa Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the disaster spot with fire tenders. The firefighting crew braved heavy smoke to extract the victim and successfully brought the raging internal blaze under complete control. Initial investigations by the fire department suggest that the inferno was likely triggered by a short circuit inside an operating air cooler unit.
The critically injured woman was quickly stabilized by paramedics and shifted to the Goa Medical College (GMC) for advanced medical treatment. Doctors at the tertiary care facility are currently monitoring her condition closely due to the severity of the thermal trauma. Authorities have urged residents to routinely service heavy seasonal appliances to prevent similar electrical malfunctions.
