BJP Will Not Push Projects Against Public Will: Damu Naik

In a significant policy reassurance aimed at cooling down regional public anger, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stated that it will prioritize community consensus over infrastructure development. The statements are seen as a strategic attempt by the party to mend rifts with local communities facing imminent land acquisitions for mega-projects.

BJP Goa Chief Damu Naik explicitly stated that the ruling party will not move forward with any developmental project if it faces strong and sustained public opposition. The declaration marks an apparent shift toward a more consultative approach to governance, acknowledging that public sentiment must be integrated into state-level planning.

Speaking specifically on the volatile Mirabag issue that has seen intense local mobilization, Naik confirmed that the community’s grievances have already been formally brought to the direct attention of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The party chief noted that he has personally urged the Chief Minister to take an appropriate, balanced decision that keeps the public’s emotional and financial sentiments firmly in mind.

Naik emphasized that the BJP government deeply respects the democratic voice of the people and will act accordingly to maintain social harmony. The statement has been received with a mix of relief and skepticism by activist groups, who state they will wait for formal project cancellation orders before dismantling their protest frameworks.
