Goan-Origin Suella Braverman defects to reform UK

Former UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman has quit the Conservative Party and joined Reform UK, led by Nigel Farage, in a major political setback for the Conservatives. Braverman announced her decision at a press conference in London, saying the Conservative Party had failed to address key issues such as illegal immigration, national security, and economic reform.

Describing Britain as “broken,” Braverman said she believed Reform UK offered a stronger platform to bring about political change. She accused the Conservative leadership of abandoning core conservative values and pledged to work with Reform UK to rebuild public trust. Her defection makes her the eighth Reform UK MP in the House of Commons and the fourth sitting Conservative MP to switch to the party since the 2024 general election.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage welcomed Braverman, calling her a significant addition to the party as it seeks to strengthen its presence ahead of future elections. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch criticized the move, stating that Braverman had chosen to leave rather than help rebuild the party.

Political analysts believe the defection could further intensify pressure on the Conservative Party while boosting Reform UK’s growing influence in British politics.
