A tragic motorcycle accident near Anmod Ghat on the Ramnagar–Goa National Highway claimed one life and left another person injured late Sunday night. The accident occurred when the motorcycle reportedly lost balance and collided with a divider, resulting in fatal injuries to the rider and serious wounds to the pillion passenger.
The deceased has been identified as Sachin Sawardekar (25), a resident of Joida, who succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital. His companion, Amar Thakur of Sonarwadi, sustained multiple injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Ramnagar.
According to preliminary reports, the duo was traveling from Goa toward Ramnagar when the accident took place on a sharp curve near Anmod Ghat—a stretch known for its steep gradients and challenging turns. Locals who witnessed the aftermath alerted authorities, and emergency responders arrived promptly to assist the victims.
Police sources revealed that the motorcycle appeared to have skidded due to excessive speed or slippery road conditions. “The bike hit the divider with considerable impact, throwing both riders off. We are investigating whether poor visibility or road surface contributed to the crash,” said an officer from the Goa Police Traffic Division.
The accident site, located along the scenic but treacherous Anmod Ghat route, has been the scene of several mishaps in recent months. Residents and commuters have repeatedly urged authorities to install better signage and reflective markers to prevent such incidents.
Sawardekar, who worked with a private company in Goa, was described by friends and colleagues as hardworking and cheerful. His sudden demise has left his family and community in shock. “He was a responsible young man with a bright future ahead. This accident has devastated us,” said a relative.
Meanwhile, doctors attending to Amar Thakur confirmed that his condition is stable but that he will require further observation. “He suffered fractures and minor head injuries but is responding well to treatment,” a hospital spokesperson said.
The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities are also examining whether mechanical failure or negligence played a role.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety, especially on hilly and winding routes like Anmod Ghat. Officials have urged motorists to exercise caution, maintain moderate speeds, and wear protective gear at all times.
