Goa CM Pramod Sawant Issues Warning as Drowning Cases Rise

Panaji: In the wake of a rise in drowning incidents across Goa, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has appealed to both residents and tourists to exercise extreme caution while visiting beaches, rivers, waterfalls, and other water bodies. The Chief Minister stressed that public awareness and responsible behaviour are essential to preventing further loss of life.

Expressing concern over the recent incidents, Sawant urged visitors to strictly follow safety guidelines issued by lifeguards and local authorities. He emphasized that many accidents can be avoided if people refrain from venturing into unsafe areas, ignore warning signs, or enter the water during rough sea conditions.

The Chief Minister advised beachgoers to swim only in designated safe zones that are monitored by lifeguards and to pay close attention to warning flags and public announcements. He also cautioned against attempting adventurous activities in unfamiliar or restricted areas, particularly during the monsoon season when water currents can become highly unpredictable.

Authorities have reiterated that beaches, rivers, and waterfalls may pose significant risks due to strong currents, sudden changes in water levels, and slippery terrain. Visitors have been urged to avoid consuming alcohol before entering the water and to ensure that children are constantly supervised by responsible adults.

The appeal comes as emergency services and lifeguards continue to respond to drowning incidents reported from different parts of the state. Officials have noted that timely adherence to safety advisories can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and help save lives.

Sawant also called upon tourists to cooperate with lifeguards, police, and other emergency personnel, reminding them that safety regulations are in place to protect everyone. He urged the public to act responsibly, avoid unnecessary risks, and report emergencies immediately if they witness anyone in distress.

As Goa continues to welcome visitors from across the country and abroad, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening water safety measures and creating greater public awareness. Authorities have appealed to everyone to remain vigilant, respect safety protocols, and work together to ensure that the state’s beaches and water bodies remain safe for all.
